Search everywhere optimization means making your business findable wherever customers look for answers: Google, AI assistants like ChatGPT, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Amazon, and review sites. You don’t need every platform. Keep your website and Google presence strong, then add the one or two platforms your buyers actually use before they buy.
What is search everywhere optimization?
Search everywhere optimization is the practice of building visibility on every platform where your customers search, research, and compare, not only on Google. That includes AI assistants, video platforms, social apps, online communities, marketplaces, and review sites.
It isn’t a replacement for SEO. Think of it as SEO’s reach extended to the places your buyers already spend time. Your website still does the heavy lifting; the other platforms send people to it, or answer their questions before they get there.
Why getting found beyond Google matters in 2026
Your customers split their attention across more apps than they did a few years ago. In Pew Research Center’s 2025 survey of 5,022 US adults, 84% said they use YouTube, 71% use Facebook, and half use Instagram. TikTok use rose to 37% of adults, up from 21% in 2021, and Reddit to 26%, up from 18%. About half of adults visit YouTube daily.
One caution: using a platform isn’t the same as searching on it. But people do look things up where they already are, and younger adults lean hardest on video and social apps.
There’s a second reason, and it loops back to Google. AI answers lean heavily on content from these platforms. In Pew’s analysis of 68,879 Google searches, Wikipedia, YouTube, and Reddit were the most-cited sources in Google’s AI summaries. So a helpful YouTube video or a genuine forum answer can raise your visibility on the platform itself and inside AI answers on Google.
Google’s own guide to its generative AI features points the same way: it says AI responses can include images and videos, and that Google Business Profile and Merchant Center data help businesses appear.
Where people search and what works on each platform
| Platform | What people use it for | What tends to work | First move for a business |
| Google and Bing | Almost every kind of search, plus local results and maps | Helpful pages, technical health, reviews, a complete Business Profile | Fix your service pages and Business Profile |
| AI assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode) | Research, comparisons, “which should I choose” questions | Clear answers, sourced facts, consistent brand details, third-party mentions | Answer your top buyer questions plainly on your site |
| YouTube | How-to, reviews, “is it worth it”, demos | Specific titles, chapters, accurate transcripts, real demonstrations | Turn your five most common customer questions into short videos |
| TikTok and Instagram | Ideas, inspiration, quick reviews, local finds | Native short video, captions with the words people search, consistent posting | Show results and behind-the-scenes work, not ads |
| Reddit and forums | Honest opinions, recommendations, troubleshooting | Genuine, useful answers that follow each community’s rules | Answer questions in your field without self-promotion |
| Amazon and marketplaces | Product research and buying | Clear titles, complete specs, good images, reviews | Fill in every listing field and fix weak images |
| Review sites and maps (Google Maps, Yelp, industry directories) | Choosing between local providers | Recent, specific reviews and accurate details | Ask every happy customer for a review |
| B2B research, vetting vendors and experts | Named experts sharing real experience | Have one leader post useful, specific insight each week |

How to pick your platforms
Search everywhere doesn’t mean be everywhere. A small team that posts badly on six platforms loses to one that does two well. Pick based on where your buyers research before they buy.
| Business type | Keep strong | Add first | Add next |
| Local service (roofing, HVAC, moving) | Website, Google Business Profile | Reviews on Google and one industry directory | YouTube how-to and project videos |
| Ecommerce | Website, Merchant Center | Amazon or your main marketplace | TikTok or Instagram product video |
| Law firm or professional service | Website, Business Profile | YouTube answers to common legal questions | LinkedIn for referral partners |
| B2B or SaaS | Website, comparison and pricing pages | LinkedIn and review platforms in your category | YouTube demos and Reddit communities |
Choose YouTube if your product or service needs explaining or showing. Choose TikTok or Instagram if the result is visual and your buyers skew younger. Choose Reddit if your buyers ask peers for honest advice before deciding. If you can’t say yes to any of these, put the time into Google and your reviews.
A 6-step search everywhere plan

- Find out where your buyers look. Ask new customers how they found you and what they checked before calling. Review referral sources in GA4. Search your main service on YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit, and ask ChatGPT for a recommendation in your city. Note who shows up.
- Fix the core first. Your website and Google Business Profile are where every other platform points. Make sure your services, areas, hours, and prices are clear, and your Business Profile is complete.
- Choose one or two new platforms. Use the table above. Commit to them for at least a quarter before judging results.
- Build once, publish in four places. Start with one expert answer to a real customer question. Publish it as a section on your website, record it as a YouTube video with chapters and a transcript, cut a 30-second clip for short-form video, and share the useful part in a forum thread where it’s welcome. One piece of expertise, four ways to be found.
- Keep your details identical everywhere. Name, phone, address, services, and descriptions should match across every profile. Mismatches confuse customers and AI tools alike.
- Measure each channel separately. Track referral traffic and leads by source in GA4, including its AI Assistant channel. Check YouTube Analytics for the search terms bringing viewers. Watch branded searches in Google Search Console: if more people search your name, your off-Google work is landing.
If AI assistants are a priority, our guide to optimizing for Google AI Overviews and AI Mode goes deeper on that channel.
Mistakes to avoid
- Spreading too thin. Five half-finished profiles look worse than none. Start small.
- Spamming communities. Most subreddits and forums ban self-promotion, and members spot it fast. Google also warns that chasing inauthentic mentions doesn’t help its AI features. Be useful or stay out.
- Copy-pasting the same content everywhere. Each platform has its own format. Repurpose the idea, not the exact file.
- Forgetting Google. Every platform on this list sends people back to search your name or visit your site. If that site is weak, the rest leaks.
- Measuring only website traffic. A video that fully answers a question may not drive a click, but it builds the trust that leads to a call later. Track branded search and leads, not just sessions.
